and he didn't have anything to do with these harassing e-mails but aides close to the general have expressed concerns may have had inappropriate access and that is what led to his decision to resign. >> as he closed out his career, paula was often by his side. a level of access that helped launch her one book career. >> i said i'm going to go for it. i'm not sure he took me eriously. >> there may be new questions about whether he knew and disseminated classified information. we now know the fbi was aware of the affair for months. part of an investigation that began from threatening e-mails that was sent to a family member. and there are questions of timing. was the information held until after the election to protect the president? the white house says no but law

makers felt blindsided. >> when she's questions came up, i took the action myself to try to find out and then informed my vice chairman and i talked to the director twice. this is very hard stuff. >> and he was scheduled to testify before congress this week about what the cia knew about the attack on the u.s. consulate two months ago that killed four americans including a u.s. ambassador. now he will be a no show. but possible he could still face a subpoena. >> i don't see how in the world you can find out what happened in benghazi if he doesn't testify. >> also asking for congress to create a joint committee to look into the affair and potential security risks. the wall street

journal reports his computer contained classify documents that they both deny the general was the classified source. >> thank you very much. meanwhile, president obama is focusing on that fiscal cliff. he's inviting labor leaders to the white house tomorrow and wednesday he will meet with the business community. following his re-election he wanted to build a consensus to prevent the tax hikes and spending cuts. the kick in the fiscal congress budget does not do anything to stop him. >> president obama paying tribute at a veteran's day ceremony at arlington national ceremony. the wreath he laid at at the tomb. >> veteran's day was yesterday but being observed today. >> over at the vietnam

the home in dickerson, maryland. investigators have not said anything about what caused this particular blaze. >> the manager of a taco bell is fighting for his life after being shot. he was shot after he confronted people who were fighting in the parking lot. he made it back into the restaurant and two employees called 911. police are looking for two men. he is listed in critical condition. investigators hope this video will help them catch two men who held up a 7-11. happened almost two weeks ago. police believe the robbery might be related to similar crimes in that area. >> now to a developing story in new york and new jersey where two weeks after super storm

sandy, 120,000 people are still in the long. the long island power authority has the most customers out with around 100,000. in new jersey, 14,000 customers are without power. power companies say it isn't safe because a lot of the wiring is still flooded. but frustrations are growing. >> i am very unhappy because we pay the highest rates in the country out of 50 states and just terrible. like we don't exist. >> i think everybody shares that frustration. i think really the question is right now how quick are they going to get it on to houses that can accept power. that's really the last big chunk we have on the new york side from the storm. >> areas that still reeling are encountering a new phenomenon.

disaster tourists. but at the same time they can see the side of things like boats picked up and left on the streets can be amazing despied what's happening there. hurricane sandy victims are getting help from all over the country including people who know firsthand what it's like to live through the disaster. >> survivors of hurricane katrina showed up to help. >> sandy's surge ruined hundreds of homes. we found hundreds of volunteers today working hard to pick up the pieces. >> flood waters reached above the windows. this morning several people he didn't know helped him clear out the debris. >> touching, heart warming is not near enough a word to describe how you feel when these things are going on. people take time to come out here and help. >> thank you very much.

another inside attack in afghanistan making headlines. a gun man wearing after afghan army uniform shot and killed a service member. no word on his identity or nationality. 60 members so far this year. >> all right a scary scene inside a michigan police station. the man walked into a lobby, pulled out a handgun and pointed it at an officer who was behind bulletproof glass. after the man refused to put down the gun, officers exchanged gunfire. the suspect was killed. an officer was shot in the shoulder but is expected to be okay. the officer said to the sus -- said the suspect didn't say anything.

a lawyer for the maryland man who is stuck in a cuban prison has written to the united nation's torture experts saying the treatment will surely amount to torture. the 63-year-old who had a long career in 50 countries is serving a 15 year sentence for spying. he's lost over 100 pounds and developed a growth on his right shoulder. nearly 300 janitors at medical center have filed a complaint demanding to be paid. the service employees say the janitors haven't received a paycheck from federal contractors in two weeks. a union rep says it hasn't been paid by the government. >> in about an hour, the superintendent will deliver the first state of the school's address. expected to speak about the future of the school

system and honor the accomplishments of students in the district. in prince georges county, a cat sitting on a power line for four days brought out lots -- i thought he was going to say he brought out the lights. and finally the utility company. the cat had been perched above the neighborhood since thursday. back and forth from sitting on the lines to going all the way. pg and e crews were called them. the cat stared at the commotion. and of course what does it do? it jumped down 30 feet to the ground and ran off. >> all of that and the cat got down. >> isn't that how it works? >> yeah it is. what a waste of energy. anyway. the lakers hire a new coach and dc united is on their way home.

white house editor for politico. good morning. good to see you. >> good morning. >> whenever we see stories like this come out, scandal really, those details leak out. what do we know? >> he was having an affair. the woman involved was his buyographer and appears to been prompted into threatening e-mails he stoent another woman who was working down in florida and that there was some level of threat that she had given that had been so great the fbi started investigating her e-mail and in investigating her e-mail found all of these messages back and forth that made them know there was an affair going on. >> and this was quite some time ago? >> that's right. we also know in terms of the timing on this that the fbi was investigating it over the summer but they did not inform anyone outside of the

fbi until this past week the director of national intelligence was told about it and the white house was told about it on wednesday and president obama was told on thursday. >> do we know the nature of the threats or the reason why the fbi started looking into this at all of the other woman? >> we don't know what the nature of the threats were but something that prompted fbi investigation. must have been something glaring to get them involved into a pretty serious investigation. >> always feel -- in this case it is general patraeus. so how does that part play into all of this? how dangerous is this? >> there is a question of whether there was intelligence information, classified information that she had access to. does seem there was some of that. the question was how she received it. given the nature

of the investigation so far, it does appear the fbi concluded it wasn't classified information he had leaked to her. >> also as we said in the introduction, we're waiting to find out what happened with chris stevens. how does the general play into this? will he still be expected to testify as someone who has a lot of the answers in what happened? >> as you know, he was supposed to be on capitol hill this thursday for a hearing of the committee to answer some of these questions and telling us what was going on from his perspective and now the acting director of the cia, his deputy, will go to congress instead. but that does seem to indicate that he thinks he will not be testifying. leading members of congress are saying that is not

the case. >> we will find out what they are going to do. >> peter king who is the chairman of the homeland security committee and lindsay graham have both been among those to say he need to have him be there to answer questions about things under his tenure. >> i'm sure i'm asking too much for you to speculate but the timing on this seems very curious and even the fact that election day started to come out a little bit. anything to that? >> those are questions we're going to keep asking until we know more of the answers. possible it was purely a coincidence of when he was supposed to testify. this was an investigation that was going on over weeks and months and we'll know more as more of the story begins to come out. >> originally we asked you to talk about other things. moving forward after the election, what does happen now moving forward? are we likely to see a more

aggressive president on foreign affairs? what are you hearing? >> for second terms president, foreign policy is an opportunity. leaders in the world stage. not just deal with congress. they can deal with foreign leaders and there are a number of big issues that are going on in the world that allow president obama if he wants to to take a very different leading roll. there's the iran situation and getting involved there in a different way. there's syria where the president has kept the u.s. mostly removed but could get more involved. there's of course -- >> often we heard the criticism has this president done enough. but it's typically in the second term the president trying to really step in. would that be correct? >> that's generally the way things have gone and president obama would say he's had his hands full. the economy is still in bad shape and he's been

so tell me about this 64 degree egg thing. >> sure. what you do is cook the egg at a specific temperature. and what that does is it gives you the ability to have a very custahdy texture. >> it takes time and patience. >> it does. >> yes. the cooking process itself is 48 minutes but you have to heat up the water and cook the eggs and cool the eggs down and heat them back up. it's a whole process for sure. used to like to cook eggs but this is high maintenance. >> this is our 64 degree egg. >> this is 64 degree celsius. >> that's how the egg naturally is.

took more than 75 firefighters to get the fire under control. it was a scene a few hours ago. this house was totally engulfed and considered a total loss. no one was hurt and still no word on what sparked either blaze. two weeks after sandy hit, more than 70,000 homes and businesses are still in the dark. most of the lingering outages are in long island. it's not safe to connect some of the homes but their wiring and other equipment is flooded. over the weekend, the lights went on for the first time thanks to generators. the monument is still closed to visitors. over the weekend, secretary toured the devastation. >> crews will be back on the scene of saturday's massive explosion. they are looking for what sparked the blast that killed two people and damaged dozens of homes.

last night the community held a candle light vigil for the two victims. the blast could be felt more than three miles away. there is no sign of a gas leak and investigators have ruled out a bomb or a meth lab. and finally, it's said the twinkie can survive anything. anything except a labor dispute. hundreds of hostess workers are off the job walking the picket line. cut wages and healthcare. but hostess said a widespread strike would impact production and delivery. that would force the company to cut most of its 18,000 employees. so you might want to stock up on twinkies right now. >> can't endure a twinkie shortage. >> that's where we're going to draw the line. >> and the hohos. >> we hope that works out.

>> let's start off with how you should be prepared. 3 to 6 months of savings just for whatever comes along. is that realistic or should it be more than that? >> really determining how much you should keep as emergency funds really depends upon two main criteria. one is your income. how predictable is your income. and the other is expenses. so i mean do you work for the military? are you a policeman or fireman? do you have predictable income in place? or are you a sales man? you might only be paid once or twice a year. those people need to have substantial amount of emergency funds and on the opposite side of the coin, one comes out to expenses. big mortgage, day care. if so, you need to keep additional funds on hand.

so the national association of financial planners independent financial planners recommends 3 to 6 months worth of expenses to be held. >> now, i know we had questions to ask yourself, we could put up on the screen, if we could see those again. this is how you can calculate what you need to do. how long can you pay the bills with no new income. what are your total monthly expenses. and this is not talking about mortgage of the what are other things that people forget about? >> you have car expenses, day care expenses. grocery expenses. some people have health club, country club expenses. i need to pay rain or shine whether or not revenue is coming in. another thing i think people overlook is to maintain at least to build up some type of escrow for maintenance expenses. 1% of your home's value should be set

aside as far as expenses. roof repairs, disher and washing machine go. if you've got a half million dollar house, plan to say $5,000 a year as far as maintaining that house to maintain the value especially in today's market. >> let's talk about investments and the importance. people kind of look back to the past when they saw what happened with enron and how people had so much of their money invested in the company they work for. do a lot of people do that? are they not diversifying? what do they need to do? >> there are three common mistakes that individuals make. one is having a concentrated stock portfolio. you work for the company for 20 years or accumulate funds for the employee stock purchase plan. you inherit it. your son or

daughter tells you to buy something i and 7 years later it turns into apple and becomes very successful. almost like winning the lottery, you need to diversify that portfolio. people who work right here locally who work for loosened technology, those people who didn't diversify, their financial future has been changed. so you need to diversify and there are many different ways to diversify in today's market. second thing people don't do is to build up your war chest. take advantage of your employer's 401 k plan. 25 and 35% tax savings by contributing to this plan. and as far as an employer match. and probably the third thing i see time and time again is people don't diversify internationally. everyone thinks u.s., u.s., u.s. but the

u.s. only produces 48% of the world's gdp. and we're lucky to have the u.s. gdp grow at 2% this year. the world's gdp, the brick countries, brazil, russia, india and china are growing 3 and 4 times. >> let me ask you this, a lot of people look at the money that they have left over trying to save. i think the biggest seems overwhelming cause you are told to have a savings account and contribute to the 401 k. how do you know how much to put where i guess? >> you know, there are rules of thumb to live by. my oldest daughter just graduated from college and she was do i participate in a retirement plan? and i told her save 10%. give 10% away and live 80% of your live with the remaining funds. if you follow that for a life

first, let's talk about the criteria used to make this list in the first place. >> so this is the third year that usaa and military.com have partnered to come up with this sort of list. the previous two years we focused on retirement eligible veterans. those folks bring to this transition problem some benefits and monies that those who are short of retirement eligible do not. and because of what's happening with the war in afghanistan, the ramping down, we wanted to focus on a younger demographic. about 25 to 34-year-olds and certain benefits, certain needs and wanted to focus in certain ways that are going to make that transition effective. the elements we put in the formula are things around education. using the post 9/11 gi bill.

we talked about affordability in an area and also costs of living, housing markets, rent price ands other more subjective things, climate, that sort of stuff. the list yielded. one is a state by state list. >> interesting. number one is pittsburgh. and when i heard that, i was curious to know why pittsburgh. why did it rank up there at number one? >> well, when you take into consideration, and you put it into the formula, pittsburgh ranked well. if you look at the top 10, there are a number of rust belt cities that have emerged and i think what we're seeing here is that part of the country is reinventing itself for the 21st century. they have great secondary schools and great opportunities at the

collegiate level. great industries that are different than the rust belt industries that really line up very nicely with the skill sets military veterans bring. >> alex an dri >> so in the state by state list, obviously, northern virginia has a whole bunch of industries and a whole bunch of agencies that are transferable and very military friendly. that's the nature of the dc/metro area. that obviously, is something that is not a stretch. some of these other cities we have on the top 10 list are not the ones that would come to mind. places like warren, michigan and cities like that. those aren't really military towns. we want to give people the most actionable starting point to make sure the

second chapter is as rewarding as the first was. >> you talked about this age group we're talking about but fill us in on the roadblocks that communist. the real challenges that face these young men and women. what are the roadblocks this group is looking at? >> they are very unique to the post 9/11 war fighters. they have done 4 and 5 tours to places like iraq and afghanistan. so these guys and girls have done the hard work that we've asked of them. and that forced them to focus in ways that are intense. if you are manning a post in afghanistan or driving a vehicle through ied infested roads, you don't have time to think about next chapter of my life. now that they are coming back a father and husband again and

get? >> the best eggs are the pasteured eggs. means the chickens are out in the pasteur eating what they are supposed to be eating. and those eggs are going to have a higher content of vitamins and minerals. and they are going to have more of the protein. >> what about the omega 3 eggs? >> that would be your next choice of eggs. >> brown over white? >> it doesn't matter. but if you see real eggs, they are going to be different colors. >> what about large, extra large? >> no. depends what size you want. before we go. you got one other brunch egg item. >> it is on our dinner menu as well. comes like this and on two plates. we have our sunny side up eggs in a broth and serve it with this toast. so the idea is you dip it into the
